16th Ave Tiled Steps!

Have you ever heard of 16th Ave Tiled Steps?

It's a 163-step staircase that was a project that built almost eight years ago. It was built with the effort of neighbors and the Golden Gate Heights Neighborhood Association. The artists Aileen Barr Colette Crutcher designed 163 mosaic panels and with over 300 neighbors helping, they built the beautiful staircase that you can see above. It was a handmade tile in the shapes of flowers, birds, stars, pieces of mirrors. Besides, there are special pieces with the name of every single person that helped this dream come true.

This staircase is located in Inner Sunset, between 15th and 16th avenue, map here.

There is even a book called "163: the story of the 16th avenue tiled steps". It tells in words and pictures the remarkable story of two artists and a community making this dream come true!

When I reached the top and I look at the view, I couldn't help but take pictures and admire that view for several minutes. After every single step, every single person that helped it be what it is, led to this beautiful work!

It's definitely a great place to go! :)
