Memorial Day

Memorial Day is a federal holiday, it means that is recognized by the United States federal government and it is a public holiday, it happens on the last monday of May, annually. Initially today was specially to remember the Union soldiers who died on Civil War, but in nowadays this holiday is used to remember the all the soldiers who died in all wars.
I researched that many people in this day visit cemetery and some of them usually put the flag of US in front of each grave in a sign of respect of them.

I didn't know about this day, did you!?

Fort Point!

Fort Point is a National Historical Landmark which was built between 1853 and 1861. It was a important place for SF 'cause it used to defend SF Bay of against hostiles warships. It is at the southern side of the Golden Gate Bridge, exactly here.
I have been there and if you go, I recommend, get a jacket because the wind is too strong over there!
The place is really interesting, at the total of four floors and on each one of them you can appreciate differently! For example, there has been a exhibition called International Orange and 16 artists created their way to approach the bridge. Each one of them in their different points of view. I didn't see all of the works, but all of that I saw were interesting. I saw and recommend the camera obscure and on first floor there is a special area for short videos and some materials in exhibitions. This is a special exhibition in celebration of the anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge and the works will be in exhibition until October 28.

Ps: I took pictures inside the camera obscure, but any picture of mine was good enough to publish here... unfortunately.

Anyway, I recommend! Don't forget a jacket and everything will be ok!

Enjoy it!

Golden Gate Bridge 75 Anniversary!

Tomorrow is Golden Gate Bridge 75 Anniversary!
Do you know the reason of this name!? Golden Gate is the name of the division between the Pacific Ocean and SF Bay Area! This strait is also known like North America Strait! Looking at the first picture you can see that.
Did you know that the Golden Gate Bridge (GGB) has been declared one of the modern  wonders of the world?! YES, by the American Society of Civil Engineers, GGB is one of the wonders of the modern world! Now, you have another reason to appreciate that!
Would you like to riddle what is the bridge most photographed in the world!? You got right if you had answered GGB! I can't imagine this fact, I mean, I live so close one of the most photographed, and possibly the most beautiful, bridges in the world! I can't have notion about that!
It's on the list of Landmarks in SF and on the List of Historic Civil Engineering Landmarks!
Tomorrow, there will have fireworks to celebrate the anniversary! It will start at 9:30 pm and it will end at 9:50 pm. I read that the fireworks will be possible to see since pier 39.

Arrow and bow!

Cupid originally was created by romans and he was in the roman mythology representing a desire of god to join two people. When a careless cupid was passing in SF I think he has left his arrow fall and the fact is: today there is a sculpture which was made by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen. It is on Embarcadero St, right here on the map! This sculpture was painted stainless-still and it's 60-foot-high, it means about 18 meters!

I hope the cupid can make you go there and fall in love to SF, like he made with me!

Can you understand now why the people like SF so much?! ;)

Jamba Juice!

Jamba Juice is a place in San Francisco where sells very naturals and healthy juices! I drank a very good one today! I think this is a useful tip because the summer is coming, so the people pass to look for something good to refresh!
There are many juices place in SF and in another countries, like in Korea, Canada, Philippines! This map can help you to find some locations here.
The fact is: these juices are completely free of artificial flavors and high fructose corn syrup, in other words, any kind of food and drinks without these substances are good for your health! You can refresh yourself and in a health way!
The slogan of them is one of the most well designed that I've already seen: it is good to be good to you!

Enjoy your jamba juice, it's worth!

Post-Eclipse!

How can I resume my day in just one word?! Unforgettable!
My day has been being intense because since that I woke up, I have been looking for eclipse glasses and I can't believe that a little portion of people knows what it is! I am writing it 'cause I heard "Oh, Is it a kind of toy?!", "Is it the name of a brand?!" and I've heard so "Is it cigarette?!" WHAT!? Whatever, I've been so surprised because of that kind of things... ok, the part 'this day's been being a shit' ends here! Well, I didn't imagined that it could be so hard like it was!
The fact is: I hadn't find any eclipse glasses and when I was going to the Ocean Beach, my last chance to find it, My father saw a guy holding the eclipse glasses and in that moment I was like, OMG the only in the city! He gave us that glasses because he was with another friends and they had more glasses!
Now, after a long day walking, the eclipse was totally different that I'd imagined in all the senses! For the first time I've seen how is to be present in days like it, I mean, is not everybody who considers it important enough like me way to see it! During the eclipse I saw people living normally, driving... and I was like come on! This is an event that happens few times a year, maybe even once a year! In my mind I thought that everybody devoted, at least, one minuto to look at the sky and enjoy it because few hours hence we will not be possible to see more'.
This day made me realize that each one of us has their own interests, I mean, this subject is interesting for me, but for many other people it may not be! So, I am pretty sure just about one thing: I will remember today all my life long, never mind our differences of opinions!

Ps: I'd tried to take a picture, but any one of them were good, unfortunately.

Rare Solar Eclipse!

Solar Eclipse is going to happen tomorrow here!!! I have never seen one of them anywhere and it is letting me further anxious! I can't wait to see because I always wanted to observe and to be present in one of this exceptions natural events, if you know what I mean. Anyway, the eclipse is tomorrow from 5:15 pm to 7:40 pm, USA pacific time. The peak will be between 6:15 pm and 6:45 pm. The second picture shows in which parts of the world will be possible to see it. Feel privileged if you're in the area that will avail it! The moon will not cover the Sun completely, about 94%.

Ring of fire is a expression used to refer to the moment when the moon covers the sun and as a result the color of the sun and that specific shape remind us a "ring of fire".

So, I read here that tomorrow, during the eclipse, there will have a Meditation Celebration, like the own site says, in the Ocean Beach. If you like this kind of thing... this is a tip!

I read this news as well, that we can't see the Eclipse without eyes protection or else you will become blind! So, take care because neither sunglasses nor see through a car window which has been treated with a sun-filtering screen can protect your eyes of this kind of light! The protection is really necessary because they have a thin layer of aluminium, chromium or silver and one of these things can attenuate the ultraviolet, visible and infrared energy. Take a double care of it: if you look at the eclipse without protection and you don't feel your eyes painful, it doesn't guarantee that they are safe, I mean, you can not feel the searing pain immediately!

Take your eclipse glasses and enjoy this rare moment like if it's the last one in your life!

Yogorino!

Yogorino is the best place in San Francisco to eat gelato (italian ice cream) and frozen yogurt! My friend Vanessa recommended me Yogorino because both the frozen and the gelato are very tasteful! Now I just have to thank her!

I think this place deserves a post because of two reasons: the frozen is really good and the place is so nice!

It is a Italian ice cream parlor and the italians are really famous for great ice creams. I just have to confirm what is already true, I mean, the frozen yogurt is really good! About the gelato I don't have a lot of things to say because I just tasted a little portion, however, that little little portion was tasty.

Are you interested?!
Ok, the adress is: 2144 Chestnut St (between Steiner and Pierce).

I hope you like too!

Falun Gong!

Today I am writing for the first time about spirituality, more specifically about meditation and Falun Gong!

Falun Gong or also known like Falun Dafa is an old practice and it is a mixture of stretching, smooth movement and meditation. The people look for do this practice for several goals, I mean, the people pursue to be relaxed, decrease the stress, to keep training the meditation practice... ultimately, many reasons!

The major symbol is the law wheel or Dharmacakra and it is used for represent the universe. It is conceptualized by an emblem which has one large in the middle representing Buddha and the others symbols arose by Daiost tradition.

I discovered it because in Chinatown there is a square and usually there are many people doing this and others kinds of exercices and games (like chinese chess, like I wrote here ). I accessed the website of them and... Hey! I have just remembered that there are MANY languages and you probably will find your language! So, the site is so accesible and there is an essential information, like where you can do it, what kind of music you can listen, which books is about this subject...

I separated this link for you guys because it can give you some adresses where this exercices are practiced because I think you're interested to do it!

I have just told you about that gorgeous website, so here we go: http://www.falundafa.org/

I hope you can access it and achieve your health goal, whatever it is!

Gaohu!

Right now you must be asking what Gaohu is, so it is a chinese instrument so famous in SF, specifically in Chinatown, obviously!

This instrument has influence from Erhu, another chinese instrument. It was created in twenties by the musician and compositor Lu Wencheng. He basically had changed Erhu, which has two ropes, for just one rope and she created Gaohu! The sound of Gaohu is higher than the sound of the Erhu because of that change.

There are compositors who made a lot of musics specially for being played on Gaohu, like Liu Tianyi and Lu Wencheng who made more than one hundred musics! I bet that you didn't know it!

If you look at the picture above, you will be looking at the most important chinese instrument which has already used in both Cantonese music and opera.

Enjoy this sound!

Cesar Chavez!

Cesar Chavez (1927 - 1993) was an mexican american farm worker and civil rights activist so important for America because he with Dolores Huerta cofounded the National Farm Workers Association which later became United Farm Workers (UFW). Basically UFW is a labor union created by the union of two groups and one of this group was led by Cesar. This guy was so important because this union changed some civil rights to have to worker's credit, like unemployed insurance when the NFWA went out on strike when had initiated a grape strike in 1965. So, the UFW launched a boycott against of grapes and after five years they won a contract with the major grape growers in California.
In honor of him, today there is a street in SF and other things like many parks, cultural centers, libraries and things like this which his name. After his death he became a major historical icon of the Latino community and it means like a support for workers and their rights.
Cesar Chavez Day is a state holiday in three states of the United States (California, Colorado and Texas) and it is on March 31, in honor of his birthday.

Majestic Palace of Fine Arts!

The Palace of Fine Arts was designed by Bernard Maybeck (1862-1957) who was an american architect. This structure was constrained in 1915 but it was rebuilt in 1965.
The combination of that place is perfect because there is a beautiful view, a pond and you can see both smelling the flowers. This place is near Presidio of San Francisco and toward of Golden Gate! If you wanna go to GGate, don't let to go there, at least because the building is h-u-g-e and there are lots of details to see and appreciate!

Have you ever been there?!

Edwardian Houses!

Edwardian Style is another kind of architecture in SF!

The fact is Edward VII was a King between 1901 and 1910 in United Kingdom and that period was knew like Edwardian Era or Edwardian Period. He took power  after the death of Queen Victoria (which gave rise to Victorian Style, like I wrote here!).

Edward died in 1910 when he was 68 years old, however, this style kept being built until about 1915. In spite of the fame of Victorian Style, the Edwardian Baroque style of architecture was soo privileged for public structures.

This style is characterized by the "square" shape, balcony, generally they are symmetries.

The picture above is on California St x Mason St. If you like to see buildings and differentes kinds of constructions (like me), go to that crossroad!

Talking about differentes styles of architecture, do you know what painted ladies is?!

Painted Ladies is the term used to call, not only houses in Victorian and Edwardian Style, but also houses painted in three or more colors to embellish and enhance the respective style.
