Victorian houses have a style that arose in reign of Queen Victoria (1837-1901). It is a style that brought together esthetic and technology to builds. During the Industrial Revolution arose new instruments and equipments, therefore to make details became easier. I think that you've already seen or listened about Victorian houses in San Francisco (at least), and you have realized that the major features are: asymmetry, details in the walls, terrace and sometimes these houses are painted with vibrant colors. There are houses with this style in several countries around the world, for exemple, England, Australia, Malaysia.
A good exemple about a famous house in Victorian style is Carson Mansion. This mansion is in Old Town, Eureka (CA), about five hours and a half from San Francisco by car.
I've never seen this mansion in my life, however I'm sure that this is a beautiful build and certainly a touristic point. The photo about Carson Mansion is the last one.
